CRIBE is seeking a GIS Technician Intern to assist in creating forest-based GIS solutions through data management and analysis; assist industry partners in the development of geospatial applications as part of CRIBE’s Forest Innovation initiatives.
The successful applicant will be working to facilitate and coordinate with CRIBE’s partners to support the deployment of innovative new GIS-based applications. Working with the GIS Innovation Coordinator, the successful applicant will take on many self-directed GIS tasks related to data management, server administration & web applications. Additionally, the successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the GIS Innovation Coordinator with implementing and maintaining innovative geospatial resources including internal economic development and forestry analytical tools as required.
The position is based in Thunder Bay.
Perform data editing, georeferencing, digitizing, scanning, and conversion.
Manage spatial data effectively, create and edit metadata.
Ability to manage large datasets and geodatabases incorporated from many sources
Familiar with and comfortable editing and deploying GIS services (different types)
Comfortable utilizing model builder
Comfortable with GIS automation scripting with Python would be an asset
Very comfortable with geovisualization and adherence to company standards for optimal visual identity, accessibility & readability
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in one of; GIS, geomatics, or related field with extensive coursework in GIS
Understanding of the natural resources and forestry sector
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people
GIS professional experience using ArcMap & ArcPro including an intermediate level knowledge of tools including concepts and vector editing and analysis is a plus.
The position is for a 1-year period, based in Thunder Bay Ontario, with an expected 21$/ hour wage.
